Central Warriors. Respect the past, embrace the future
Maybe not a surprise to you, but a lot of people are giving GC's baseball team up for dead after Saturday's district tournament championship game.
Why should they? GC was LPD champs, and didn't throw their ace Saturday.

I'll tell you why they do, because that's what they want - that's the reason for it. True, they aren't as strong as in the past 2-3 previous seasons, but they have been surprisingly competitive - especially since they only returned one starter from last years team (Castle).
No matter what happens the rest of the way, I'd have to say it has been a successful season for them.
We are also very young.
When you have solid programs like JJK and GC, you just don't use youth as an excuse.

JJK has a very fine ballclub (even though they like GC are young) & well-coached as well. Their feeder program(s) success shows within their high school ranks, that's for sure. It wouldn't surprise me in the least bit to see them in Radford if they can keep playing like they have been here late in the season.
Good luck to both JJK's & GC's baseball teams the remainder of the season & may they represent the LPD well.
I can agree with that Reese. JJK sounds like they are pretty tough right now. With GC, anytime Castle takes the mound they will be tough to beat, but if a team puts the ball in play, it seems like you have a decent chance with GC's youth.
By the way, did Tihlee play baseball this year?

Didn't play baseball but has been involved in some AAU basketball where he did pretty well.

Welcome to the USSA!
No, Tighlee (sp?) didn't play baseball this year.
GC threw their #4 in the district tournament championship game due to the VHSL restrictions of 10 innings pitched per player over the course of a week. Saturdays now start the first of the week as far as counting innings pitched, thus it would have not been good strategy to start your #1 or #2 for that matter with the regionals coming up just a few days later. Powell Valley's Jim Kelly had very good strategy last season for his Vikings and worked his team (using pitching selection) to a final four appearance along with Gate City. That's two LPD teams in the final four the past two years (GC & Kelly in '04, GC & PV in '05). Not sure that will be the case this season, but rest assured that if it isn't VirginiaPreps.com baseball messageboard will light up with every Region C idiot coming out of the woodwork as if they're kings of baseball within the Commonwealth.
